A custom Coca-Cola x fashion experience


Last week I got introduced to a new fashion collaborative project between Coca-Cola and a few local designers who dabble in a bit of ready-to-wear and street wear, it's no doubt that Coca-Cola has a relatively comfortable history of working with designers, one that comes to mind is the iconic Karl Lagerfeld collaboration, followed by the Kith and Hello Kitty collaborations.

I've come to know that the relationship between Coca-Cola and signature style is a long-standing one, deeply threaded in groundbreaking marketing and design.


Now enough of the introduction formalities, here is what's keeping me hyped for the summer, Coca-Cola has teamed up with four of our local and international fashion design fame to create a quartet of signature collections influenced by uniquely South African experiences and the Coca-Cola taste for adventure, passion, bridging divides and bringing people together over an ice-cold Coca-Cola.

Now as much as that reads like a mouth full, the capsule collection, called #CokeThreds, connects with consumers through fashion.


The campaign is a multi-sensory and multi-platform experience that brought to life collaborative creations in a fresh and impactful way. Each piece from each collection has been expertly designed by some of South Africa's most celebrated and unique design talents, curated and tested against the best of local and international trends.

Last Wednesday, the rest of us were invited to view and shop this capsule collection while we casually met the four designers responsible for this street style spaza-shop party out at Orphan Street Clothing Shop.

The party started at 7pm, much like a Sip & Shop, coca-cola beverages were flowing with burgers making the rounds, the foodie in me shed a thug-tear at the fact that I couldn't nibble at a single thing on offer. The clothes, to say as little as I can about them are all MUST HAVE items for the summer, my attention was drawn to Maylee's two-tone swimsuit, Rich Mnisi's pleated skirt looks like n absolute dream. The casual women in me fell madly in love with the "Believe In Yourself " red and white Style Gang Original Designs track top. While Sol-Sol Menswear comes in with some statement Tshirts, an entire closet selection makes up #CokeThreds and is a fitting collection of key pieces belonging to a vibrant and aspirational talent.

While my love for threads is the drive behind this post, Coco-Cola did well with this collection and the selection of each designer presented a synergy of young creativity and it magnificently fell into place.
